Salamanca Market, October 1, 2022

Yay, we had a sunny Salamanca Market Day, today! It started with a cool 3 degrees Celsius but it warmed up quickly.

A mother and daughter purchased “Be Whooo You Are” for her son/brother. The sister was keen on getting something for her brother. I commented on how nice that was and the mother said that she is always getting things for her brother. She looked like she was about 10 years old.

A man bought a small original painting of gum leaves. He was visiting his son and family that lives in Brisbane, Queensland, and they were all holidaying together in Tasmania for two weeks. They were finishing their Tassie holiday tomorrow and he will be spending two more weeks in Brisbane before he returns to the UK.

Salamanca Market September 11, 2021

The morning started with beautiful blue skies but because rain was forecasted, I put the gazebo’s three walls up and awning. It’s surprising how much time this takes. I suppose because I need a stool to reach, which means getting up and down from the stool, and constantly moving it along to attach the wall and awning to the next section. Anyways, business started happening before I had completed my setting up, which is good, considering tourist traffic is significantly down.

A local young man bought “Hair Accessories” for his partner that loves black cockatoos. They are regular visitors where they live, as they are at my house, on the Eastern Shore of Hobart. Next a couple from Hobart visited and she bought two zipper pouches, one for a gift and the other for herself, along with a large “Salamanca Saturdays” tote bag. Another Hobartian purchased a small “Hanging Out” tote bag for her young niece and a grandmother bought an “Afternoon Siesta” greeting card for her 5 year old granddaughter, Fifi, living in France. Christmas cards, destined for various locations around the world: Norway, USA, and the UK, to name a few, were purchased today too.

A “Lazy Days” tote bag was purchased for a friend that is besotted with wombats. This friend stayed at a hotel that had an adopted wombat that wandered in and out of the hotel and this is where her passion was really fuelled.

There were heaps of people from Queensland at the market. The border opened and many have taken advantage of it. Another “Lazy Days” tote bag was purchased. A young couple from Brisbane purchased a set of prints: “Hammock Life,” “Afternoon Siesta” and “Devilish Siesta”. Their yard backs onto a bush reserve and these prints fit in with their animal/nature theme of their house’s décor.

A worker from the Royal Hobart Hospital, thankful that she doesn’t have to wear a mask today because she wears it each day at work (but that will be changing next week, we’ve been told that we must wear masks) purchased a framed Christmas Siesta.

Salamanca Market Sept 14, 2019

Today, in contrast to last week (thankfully!) the sky was bright blue and the sun was out.

The day started with a couple from Berlin, Germany, now living in Australia, buying a bunch of PJ Paintings Christmas greeting cards to post to relatives in Germany.

Two young ladies visited the stall. One purchased a “Tu-whit & Tu-whoo” and a “The Three Amigos” print.  She wanted a print with magpies too, so that she could have her three favourite birds hanging together. Magpies are coming. I took a bunch of photos of a camera-friendly magpie outside the door of a café. I think it had become accustomed to being fed, hence being so cooperative and presenting multiple poses for me.

Another lady from Berlin, Germany, came into stall today. She purchased a couple of A-5 sized prints: “Storytime” and “Family Outing”. A lady visiting from New Zealand bought some prints for her 1.5 and 4 year old sons. She bought “Hayride”, “Family Outing”, “Emus Can Fly!” and “Glamour Girls”.

Two young ladies from Paris, France, flying back home in two days after spending 10 months in Australia, bought a “Scarlet Robins” print.

A lady, down from St Helens, Tasmania, who was showing her niece from Scotland Tasmania, bought a “Helping Hands” print. She said that she’ll be visiting Scotland next year and that the print will be a gift for a family member living there.

A couple from Virginia, USA bought a wombat and a “Salamanca Saturdays” card as a souvenir. An urban sketching friend came by and bought a “What the Devil?! pouch to take to Iran with her. She and her partner are visiting Iran for several weeks. I’m really looking forward to seeing her sketch book upon her return. Safe travels.

A wide variety of prints were bought today. The new “The Bun” and “Hair Accessories”, some prints from the Unfurling series, “Off to the Races”, the wombats and more. The most popular prints today were the owls.
