Salamanca Market, October 1, 2022

Yay, we had a sunny Salamanca Market Day, today! It started with a cool 3 degrees Celsius but it warmed up quickly.

The first purchase of the day were some 5-card Christmas packs by a lady visiting the south of the island from Launceston, Tasmania. Christmas wombat card packs are available at: https://pjpaintings.com/collections/cards/products/greeting-card-set-christmas-tassie-native-animals

A family also from the north of the state, Turners Beach, with a point from a young grandson to decide between two prints, purchased “Glamour Girls II”. https://www.ourtasmania.com.au/northwest/turners-beach.html

A mother and daughter purchased “Be Whooo You Are” for her son/brother. The sister was keen on getting something for her brother. I commented on how nice that was and the mother said that she is always getting things for her brother. She looked like she was about 10 years old.

A man bought a small original painting of gum leaves. He was visiting his son and family that lives in Brisbane, Queensland, and they were all holidaying together in Tasmania for two weeks. They were finishing their Tassie holiday tomorrow and he will be spending two more weeks in Brisbane before he returns to the UK.

Salamanca Market, September 10, 2022

Today we had to contend with a LOT of rain but thankfully it wasn’t accompanied with wind, and amazingly, I was able to set up and take down just when there were breaks from the rain. During the downpours, there was a sea of different Hobart hotel umbrellas on view.

A speech pathologist, visiting Tasmania from the mainland of Australia, purchased an A-3 sized “Beachside Chatter” and “Who, Who, Who are You? II” print to hang up in her practice. It will engage children and calm their nerves.

Two sisters from Brisbane bought an “Outback Glamping” print and a “Salamanca Fresh” tote bag. They have another sister and when they are together people think that they are triplets they told me.

A lot of members from a family from Sydney that are attending a cousin’s wedding in the afternoon, bought a “Bunk Beds” print.

A couple bought my original painting of the Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery. I drew and painted most of it, sitting on a bench, on the wharf across the street from it. https://friendsoftmag.org.au/  My “Ladybird Parade” original painting also sold today.

A Dutch couple that lived in Perth for nine years and then moved back to Netherlands, and then realised, what have we done??, moved back to Australia. They are planning to settle in Tasmania and are looking for a house in Cygnet. They bought some greeting cards to send to relatives in Netherlands.

A Hobart law and psychology student purchased a small, framed print of “Spanish Eyes (Red). Another small, framed print, “Sea Life” this time, sold to a young lady, who has been working one year and nine months in Sydney but is soon returning to Hong Kong. She has a good job lined up but she is leaving her options open if she doesn’t like it because the country has changed significantly since she has left.

You can feel that spring is coming when you step out of the house at 5:50am. It’s not as inky black and the air isn’t as crisp.

My first customer of the day purchased an A-3 sized print of “Café Paris”.

There seemed to be a lot of locals at the market, or maybe I just had a lot of locals stop by. I had a lady, who lives in Hobart, buy a “Lazy Days” tote bag, and another lady from Hobart bought a “Salamanca Fresh” bag.

Parents from Adelaide bought “Iconic Aussies” and “The Bun” for their daughter’s bedroom. She has just got a galah, the live type, not a paper one.

A couple from Singapore bought a “White Faced Scops Owls” tote bag for an unwell friend. A lady, attending a Geoscape Conference (www.geoscape.com.au) in Hobart, purchased “Entanglement”, “Lazy Days” and “Southern Flow” prints.

Parents, living in Adelaide, and a son living in Sydney, on holidays together bought “Glamour Girls”.

And before you know, it’s time to pack up, thankful that the weather was so mild and that soon you will be able to put your feet up and enjoy a relaxing cup of tea. 🙂

Bigfoot

Hello everybody,

Here’s my latest painting of another little wombat. I think I drew its feet a little big, hence titling this painting “Bigfoot”.

Bigfoot

This “Bigfoot” title brought back a memory from long ago and the birth of my daughter. Just after being informed that I gave birth to a girl, the nurse said, “wow, she has big feet!” Indeed she did, but now as an adult she has tiny feet, size 5, which I think is size 35-36 European ladies shoe size and size 6 in USA. So, maybe this little wombat will grow into its big feet and then need a name change to “Littlefoot”.

I hope everybody is enjoying their week on healthy feet, no matter what size they are.

Cheers, from Patricia at PJ Paintings

P.S. “Bigfoot”, a cute little wombat, not a sasquatch https://www.livescience.com/24598-bigfoot.html, will be for sale at Salamanca Market.

Salamanca Market March 19, 2022

Hobart put on another perfect market weather day on Saturday.

My very first visitor was from Cairns, Queensland. She bought a greeting card. Soon after, I had a couple visiting from Toronto, Canada. Their daughter had their first two grandchildren during COVID, now 14 months and two months old. They bought an A-3 sized print of “Hanging Out” for Audrey, the two-month-old and said that hopefully that will help her sleep more (lol). Another “Hanging Out” print is going to make its home in Townsville, Queensland.

A “Lazy Days” and “Home among the Gum Trees” print is heading to Newcastle, New South Wales (NSW). A young girl, from the Hunter Valley https://www.winecountry.com.au/plan/history , which is very close to Newcastle, bought a small “House Sharing” print with her own money. (I gave her a discount. I always do when children spend their own hard-earned money. I think it is something quite honouring that from all the things on display at a market that they choose to buy a piece of art).

House Sharing

Another couple visiting from Canada visited and purchased “Sitting on the Fence”. They are from Newfoundland. The university there has an exchange program with the University of Tasmania, which their daughter took the opportunity of this arrangement to study in Australia. Long flights are now an integral part of their lives because she met her Tasmanian partner and has made her life here.

A gentleman, attending a conference in Tasmania and working in some golfing while he’s here, purchased three prints: “Friendship Refreshes the Soul”, “Hammock Life”, and I think the third one was “Supportive Nestworks” for his friend who lives in NSW. His friend’s house was destroyed by fire and these prints are going to be his house-warming gift. He will be moving into his new house in about three weeks. His friend told me that he is a great fan of my art. He definitely is as he has bought eight of my prints over the past few years and will now be getting three more!

I also sold this small original painting, painted on Khadi paper made from recycled cotton rags.

Thanks for visiting and I hope that the upcoming week is a gentle one for you.

Salamanca Market February 19, 2022

It was chilly in the morning. My face felt cold while setting up the stall. As the day progressed, so did the temperature, eventually getting up to 27 degrees Celsius. We could hear constant helicopter activity and sirens at the market. I found out that was because there was a fire at Mt Nelson. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-02-19/watch-and-act-issued-for-hobart-suburb/100845458 I think it has been successfully dealt with, thankfully.

My first visitors to the stall was a couple that have been living in Melbourne for five years and are moving back to Ireland. They bought “Enchanted Forest I”.

Then I had another couple, who bought “Bunk beds” and “Sitting on the Fence” and they told me that they will be coming with them back to Ireland. They have a two- and four-year-old and are also living in Melbourne. They were planning on moving back to Ireland and then the pandemic happened, forcing them to postpone the move. Both families are moving in less than two months. What an undertaking! I feel tired just thinking about a move like that.

“The Three Amigos II” was the best seller today. A couple bought a “The Three Amigos II” print for his sister who is going back to Germany, where she currently lives and works. She’s a violinist in Germany. He has another sibling and the three of them affectionately call themselves the three amigos. Another young couple bought three prints of the kookaburras because he wanted one for himself and his two friends. The three of them also call themselves the three amigos. They also bought framed prints of “Bunk beds” and “Silent Disco”. They also asked if they could have a photo of us. I happily obliged.

The Three Amigos II

Then, “The Three Amigos II” went to a couple from the Gold Coast, QLD and a few others sold but I couldn’t catch where their destination was. I went home without a single “The Three Amigos II” print.

A large “Lazy Days” tote bag is heading for Sydney.

The cuddly original wombat painting sold today too. It is staying in Hobart.

A regular visitor to my stall gave me this little memento of my birthplace in Belgium. It is unheard of to see anything connected to Hasselt, Belgium in Tasmania.

Thank you for visiting and I wish you a creative upcoming week.
