My drawing and painting for Week Two’s prompt word, “Puppet”, for #inktober52.
Puppeteer
I spent significant time and care drawing the fur in with an Artline pen. I usually just draw outlines and do my details in the painting part of the process. I accidentally deleted the drawing photo from my phone. Quite frustrating.
It was a much cooler start today than previous weeks. We are definitely moving into winter. I wore my fingerless gloves and despite wearing my winter woollen socks, my toes remained cold throughout the day.
A traveller from Paris, France, working in Melbourne’s metro office, bought a “Enchanted Forest II” and “Hanging Out” print. It was fun to have a short conversation in French.

While I was packing up, one of the UK sisters I met last week, revisited my stall. She bought two prints: “Bunk Beds” and “Share House” and a card. The sisters are off to Melbourne on Monday and then to Cairns for two weeks. Then one is going back to the UK, and the other is going to stay and work. She would like to work in Hobart because she really likes it here.
Packing up was finished later than usual but there was no mad rush, so all good.
Until next week, take care and have fun being creative.
It was the usual start early this morning: lifting crates, heaving the gazebo open, bustling around, chatting and the like to set up for the day.
My first customer purchased “The Three Amigos II”. She’s visiting from Victoria. I think this was her first time in Hobart. They usually stay in the north of the state because they own land in St Mary’s, a small town on the east coast of Tasmania https://www.eastcoasttasmania.com/discover/town/st-marys/ . They came to Tasmania on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry.

Her name is Maggie, short for Margaret. Sometimes in jest, he tells her how much he loves his Maggie….long pause… football team.
A Canadian, from New Brunswick, purchased a “Maggie” print. She worked in Japan for three years, where she met and became friends with a lady, who a few years later, invited her to her wedding in Melbourne. It was just the push, or excuse, she needed to come and explore some of Australia. Friends told her that she had so see Tasmania, because it is just a hop and skip from Melbourne, and so worth doing. So, she followed up on the advice and is loving Tasmania.
A couple visiting from Indonesia purchased “Hot Couple II”. A couple visiting from Brisbane, purchased gifts for family members: a “Meet Me at the Gate” print, and “Glamour Girls” and “Beachside Chatter” tote bags.

Another couple, that saw “Hot Couple” at Peppercorn Gallery in Richmond, but didn’t buy it, couldn’t get it out of their heads so they had decided that they were going to have to go back to Richmond to buy it, were so happy to come across me at the market. It saved them a return trip to Richmond. https://pjpaintings.com/collections/emus/products/copy-of-afternoon-tea-emu-watercolour-prints

My first customer was travelling from North Carolina, USA, with her two boys. They chose a school that ran 9 weeks, 3 weeks off, so that they could travel. When she saw it at an exhibition at the Lady Franklin Gallery, she said that is what she wanted for her Mother’s Day present, and her family obliged. She plays the piano, Emma, her daughter, plays the clarinet and the rest of the family play musical instruments too. It was so nice to meet the family who has the painting and hear how much they love it.

My first customer purchased a “Maggie” tote bag. She hand raised a baby magpie. She saw the bag and instantly decided to buy it. I debuted the “Maggie” tote bag today and sold out in the first hour of the market. Everyone that bought one had a story about feeding their magpie/s. They visit at a regular time and tap on the window or somehow alert their humans to the feeding time.

You have to carry all your gear.

I ended the day with a couple visiting from China. They purchased a “Bunk Beds” and “Goldilocks and the 20 Penguins” print. They asked if they could see the other limited edition prints I had because they didn’t like 46 out of 500 too much. They were much happier with 30 out of 500.
My next customer from Sydney amazed me. She went to Maria Island and managed to not see one wombat!! She went to the fossil cliffs, campgrounds and penitentiary accommodation area and didn’t see any wombats. When I went there, I stopped counting after about 50 sightings. I saw big wombats, baby wombats, and I had one keep me company when I was sketching for about an hour. Unlike the above’s experience of disappointment, I had a couple from Perth, with her ultimate dream was to see a wombat, and she was over the moon about having seen not one, but six wombats at her visit to Cradle Mountain. They bought a “Hanging Out” print as a souvenir. https://happiestoutdoors.ca/maria-island-tasmania/

The parents are gong to visit the happy couple this year, during our winter, their summer.

As I work at my drawings, day after day, what seemed unattainable before is now gradually becoming possible. Slowly, I’m learning to observe and measure. I don’t stand quite so helpless before nature any longer.― Vincent van Gogh
