It was sunny and warm, and busy all day, despite it being the AFL Grand Final today. There were lots of people around that were not the least bit interested in the AFL or were blissfully unaware of this major Australian event, that just about stops the nation. It was the Brisbane Lions against the Collingwood Magpies, and the Magpies won by a small margin of four points. Quite a few Maggie prints and tote bags sold today but nobody tied their choice to football, rather to feeding their regular visitors.
My first sale of the day was a medium sized “What the Devil!?!” pouch to someone visiting from Sydney. Then a fellow Salamanca Market stallholder “Lazy Days” tote bag for her sister in Germany.
A “White Faced Scops Owls” print was purchased because owls were her mother’s favourite bird. She passed away a month ago, the day after her 86th birthday. She celebrated her birthday with family, including her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a gin & tonic. The print is going to Mudgee, NSW. https://www.visitnsw.com/…/country-nsw/mudgee-area/mudgee
A couple from Haven, Victoria, purchased a “Salamanca Saturdays” print. I commented that Haven is a nice name for a town. They thought Snug, which is a Tasmanian town, was equally nice. I agreed, it is a better name than the town named Ouse that is another Tasmanian town. They laughed.
A couple from New Zealand purchased “Glamour Girls”. She has three retired, glamorous girlfriends. A “Hanging Out” tote bag and a “Friendship Refreshes the Soul” cushion cover is going for a long journey to North Wales.
A visitor from Queensland, visiting her brother, who lives in Franklin, Tasmania, bought a “Salamanca Fresh” tote bag and an original urban sketch of part of the Governor House I did.
A “Meet Me at the Gate” tote bag was bought for her mother-in-law and a “Bathing Beauties” one as a gift for herself.
A visitor from Taiwan purchased some prints for her souvenir. She chose ”Enchanted Forest III”, “Wombat Adventurer”, “Dinner for Five” and “Hanging Out”. Some visitors from South Africa also bought some souvenir prints. They will be returning with “Spiky Bunk Beds”, “Family Bunk Beds” and “Hanging Out”.
A woman from Melbourne bought two “Meet Me at the Gate” prints, one for her sister. She said that fairy wrens were her Mum’s favourite bird. She passed away last year, and they’ll meet her at the gate when it’s their time to go.
Then I had a man who stopped in. He is originally from Czechoslovakia, living in Australia. His Swiss wife and him are going to Europe to visit family and friends, and he was looking for Australian gifts. He bought some Enchanted Forest III, Scarlet Robins, Fairy wrens, Family Bunk Beds, Hanging Out and Hammock Life prints.
The wind picked up in the afternoon, so it was good to be able to pack up and escape before any damage occurred.
Wishing you a great upcoming week.
